Thanks for commenting, Cabeça, and welcome! :) And there's nothing wrong with being cautious---I'd consider it good policy even if someone were advanced, as you never know, and don't want to be mistaken for rude, presumptuous, ignorant, etc...!

Yep, I agree whole-heartedly! I first learned Capoeira in California, USA, under Mestre Penteado (really great Mestre and nice guy) for about 4 months, and later continued Capoeira in Singapore, 16 hours away on their side of the world, under ZambiaCongo Singapore (Mestre Geni). The culture and the people may be a little different, but the axe i felt during the Rodas is always great!

However, as a newbie, I will be hesitant to jump into any foreign Rodas I see. There are dos and don'ts in every capoeira group, and I'm worried about doing something "wrong" or "offensive" while in the Roda. I guess I will learn if I do play capoeira in other countries in the future : )

Hi Bolinha, welcome to Mandingueira! :D Wow, Indonesia, that is definitely getting out there. I know exactly what you mean! It feels like I can walk in among a complete group of strangers, anywhere in the world, and they will welcome me from the mere fact I'm a capoeirista, and I would do the same for any of them. (And I have yet to be proven wrong about this admittedly thin-ice theory.) I wonder what other kind of sport or art has this phenomenon?

Hey Mree...hehehe, I'm clairvoyant. ;) I hope the article helped you in your thinking about your next move though, and yes, just think of how much more knowledge you will be gaining!

Thank you Mariposa, as always! =)

Funny you write this...I was just starting to think ahead to my next move. As a Navy wife, we move a lot, and our next one (hopefully!) will be our last one. I'm already looking to see if there is a group where we're looking to settle.

There are no branches of Mandinga in N. Florida, so far as I can tell, so I will treasure my time here, for sure...but I do look forward to different prespectives I will gain when the time comes.

I really like what you wrote and I do have to agree. I've done a bit of traveling myself too. The farthest place I've been to is when I went back to Indonesia. I decided to go ahead and train with Grupo Negaça. I only knew one guy (Galo) there, who I met online. I was very nervous, but once I got there and I saw the abadas, berimbaus, etc. I felt like I was at home. Everybody was so nice and immediately I was hooked! I feel that once you are a capoeirista, you are immediately bonded into this universal family. No matter where you train, you will always feel at home.
